Our Principal Dentist, Dr Lisa Light, is returning to Moria camp this March to carry out important work with refugees.
The largest refugee camp in Europe, Moria camp is vastly overcrowded with over 9,000 people living in an old prison camp that was originally designed to hold 1,500 inmates. Living conditions are extremely difficult with no facilities to cook for the families. Basic food is delivered daily in containers with refugees forced to form long queues to receive a food package from the distribution centre.
Lisa has travelled to Moria camp on several occasions, providing desperately needed dental treatment and working in a vitamin distribution programme. The team has made good connections within the authorities who run the camp and now the vitamins are being ordered and delivered to the camp directly. Lisa and the team now need to source vital funds to help cover the cost.
The team will concentrate on delivering vitamins to each individual family member, whether they are living in a tent, iso-box or makeshift shelter. These visits also help team members to engage as individuals and listen to personal stories and journeys (a unique approach in the camp).
Vitamins for 9,000 people are very expensive so Lisa and the team are appealing for any contributions you can manage to help towards covering the costs of the vitamins, as well as travel and accommodation expenses.
